Docklands

Docklands 10 years ago was a rundown industrial wasteland on the waters edge of Melbourne’s Central Business District. Today it is unrecognizable as it continues to undergo a vast transformation, a gradual project of extending the traditional CBD. A large undertaking, planning has so far resulted in several precincts that have introduced

  • A number of high rise residential developments
  • Corporate and commercial buildings including large campus style headquarters
  • Several areas of new parkland
  • Public spaces and promenades
  • Public art works dotted throughout the area
  • Restaurants, bars and clubs
  • Retail stores
  • Entertainment
  • Sporting venues such as the Etihad Stadium (previously known as Docklands Stadium and Telstra Dome)
  • Water side facilities and marinas

Being a large development happening in stages over a number of years, the Docklands is doing it’s best to quickly achieve its vision of a bustling waterfront of residents, workers and visitors. Docklands Public Art

When planning for the Docklands, a great amount of effort and space was set aside for public art. This was crucial for developing a sense of culture and avoiding the sterility of an overall modern development. When walking in most areas of the Docklands, the art is a pleasure to admire and promotes diversity and imagination.

Docklands Fashion & Entertainment

In working to make Docklands a quality urban environment it makes sense to establish a strong retail presence. Not only does it seem feasible from residential, commercial and visitor numbers, but as a new development there is this opportunity to create a Shopping Mecca in a city where clothes and shopping are renowned.

Restaurants, cafes, bars and clubs are spread out generously throughout the docklands with a strong focus on fashion and retail in the Waterfront City precinct.
