Melbourne AquariumGo to Melbourne Aquarium and get an underwater adventure in the company of sea creatures without getting wet. Melbourne Aquarium is Australia's newest, most state-of-the-art aquarium. This spectacular aquarium is situated on the North bank of the Yarra River in central Melbourne. Melbourne Aquarium has more than 10,000 reasons to interest you more. It proudly features over 10,000 aquatic creatures. Since it was founded in 1999, it has found exciting ways to bring people close to animals with fins, flippers, scales, gills, inks and tentacles. It is conveniently located just a short stroll from many inner-city attractions such as the Crown Entertainment Complex and Southgate Leisure Precinct. Melbourne Aquarium is Australia's only Southern Ocean aquarium. It is popular for its shark exhibit and the many diverse species of marine life that it contains. The real head turner is the awesome 360 degree Oceanarium. Giant sharks and stingrays lark and prowl just inches away, but of course they are safely contained. People can even watch the incredible live feeding presentations held twice a day. Meanwhile, other fascinating features include the rockpool exhibit and a diverse collection of Australian Sea Jellies. Visitors will also be treated to the beauty and grandness of the Great Barrier Reef exhibit, the exciting touch of the touch pools, and the dazzle of the coral atoll complete with its colorful coral and tropical creatures. For something with an extraordinary splash, five star functions at Melbourne Aquarium can create a feast of food, fun and marine fusion for any function. A dinner for 100 people in the Fish Bowl, a corporate cocktail event in the Coral Atoll good for 600 guests or a tour package through the entire venue for a crowd of 1500, Melbourne Aquarium has a sea-deep range of function spaces to suit any need. The Underwater Zoo at Melbourne Aquarium also offers high quality and innovative education programs to students of all ages. It introduced three new programs in 2006, and it is proud to present two outstanding programs for 2007. Measures and Treasures is a newly designed Early Years numeracy program that consolidates basic numeracy skills with an aquatic environment. At Melbourne Aquarium, learning key mathematical concepts can be a fun aquatic adventure for kids. Sea Change, meanwhile, is an interesting Later Years program that gives focus on how aquatic species change in time. These programs are designed for information and fun and are facilitated by qualified marine educators and specialists. Visitors are advised to allow about 2 hours for their tour of the aquarium, so they can experience for themselves the reason why Melbourne Aquarium won the 2001 Victorian Tourism Award as Major Tourist Attraction. Currently construction is taking place so that that Aquarium is extended, doubling its size. This will further more enhance the diversity and excitement of this underwater experience. |
