Townships & Attractions

Stop off in Coldstream, where you can catch a glimpse of the house where Australia's world famous operatic daughter Dame Nellie Melba lived. If you're a fan of the great Dame of song, head to the Museum of Lillydale to learn more about her rise to the international opera circuit.

The regions and townships of the Yarra Valley, just like Coldstream, have much to offer in the way of arts, galleries, food and wine in stunning hill and forest sceneries. Other towns of great interest in the area include the beautiful Olinda, Warburton, Marysville and Yarra Glen.

Puffing Billy

Jump aboard Puffing Billy, a genuine historic steam train that winds itself throughout the Dandenong ranges through quant towns on this 25km journey. Climb the mountain while chugging through lush forest with some spectacular views as far as Port Phillip Bay.

Healesville Sanctuary

Located near the township of Healesville is Healesville sanctuary, 30 hectares of sprawling Australian bushland with more then 200 species of Australian wildlife. This of course includes all the well known Aussie animals like kangaroos, koalas and Tasmanian devils not to mention the must see attractions of “Meeting the Keeper” and the popular “Birds of Prey” show.

Art

Great artists have found inspiration in the Yarra Valley. Discover the shape of talents at the many galleries and art and craft shops dotted throughout the region. You'll find handmade pottery, jewellery, paintings, ceramics and furniture in idyllic bush villages like Warrandyte, Yarra Glen and Warburton.

If you'd like a lesson in art history, follow the famous Heidelberg School Artists Trail with more than 50 road signs that lead the way to artwork and painting spots frequented by famous Australian artists like Arthur Streeton, Tom Roberts and Clara Southern.
