Apollo Bay

For folks who prefer a more intimate setting for their travels, there's nothing along the road that can match the coziness of Apollo Bay. The relatively small population, low tourist influx even during the peak season and the intimate feel make Apollo Bay the ideal place to go for those who value relaxation and excitement during their trips.

Originally a village devoted to agriculture and fishing, Apollo Bay nevertheless has a number of activities and sights that tourists can take in. Among the most popular sites within the Apollo Bay would be the aforementioned bay the town is named after. The waters turn to crystalline orange during the sunset, giving a view that has been described as "romantic," "soothing" and "tingly" by a variety of sources. The waters are crystal blue during the day and provide what is arguably the clearest view of the natural reefs and underwater rock formations in the area.

Apart from the aquatic scenery, there is also the Barham River road. As the name implies, the road travels alongside the Barham River before ending at Marriners Falls. The area traversed by the road is also known for a number of small communities that are relatively quaint and posses a nostalgic appeal. Along the way, tourists can get a good view of the Australian countryside, along with an excellent offshore view of the ocean and the coast. The breath-taking natural view and the calming atmosphere combine to create a powerful relaxing effect on tourists and locals alike. At the opposite end of the road is Mounts Bay, which forms near the river's mouth.

Another group of interest for people who have more equestrian-related interests is the Apollo Bay Pony Club. Great Otway National Park can also be easily accessed from the small town.
