Cape OtwayCape Otway is among Australia's best places to visit if you're interested in recreation amidst nature. Composed of rough and difficult terrain, the area around Cape Otway has always been considered an adventure-filled trek through the most beautiful and rugged territory Victoria has to offer. The park encompasses what is generally accepted to be the most breath-taking, at the same time, inaccessible terrain in the country. The rest of the park is easily accessible from small towns along the Great Ocean Road, such as Apollo Bay, Princeton and Lorne. The naturally rugged terrain of the park's coastline has given Cape Otway a reputation for being dangerous. Sailing along the coast is not advised, except for the most experienced sailors. However, the view from above the waters is wondrous and visitors often come away with an appreciation of the power of the ocean and the risks involved in traveling the cape. The Cape Otway lighthouse is among the oldest structures in that area of the Australian continent and a local tourist destination. The lighthouse serves as the landmark for ships entering Bass Strait, which is a particularly rough section of coastal land. The building stands with an additional structure and a pair of houses, which all serve as a historical site. There are available tours that can give people a surprising amount of insight on the naval and maritime history of the towns within the immediate area, as well as the entirety of Victoria. Activities and ParksThe extensive national park also serves as a home to thriving rainforest ecosystem that several animals, some of which can only be found in Australia, call home. Among those creatures are the famous koalas, a variety of marsupial species and the gray kangaroo. Apart from those mentioned above, the rainforest in Cape Otway Park is also home to a number of rarely seen species, such as the yellow-bellied glider. Near Apollo Bay is another area of interest, known as Maits Rest. The area is an isolated and quiet spot of rainforest territory that is great for nature trails and hiking trips. Apart from the numerous trails that a traveler can take through the magnificent gully, there is also an excellent view of ancient beech trees once a tourist gets to the end of the hike. Cape Otway AccommodationTourists seeking accommodations will have to book with one of any number of hotels located along the numerous small towns within the vicinity of the park. Tourist towns such as Apollo Bay, Lorne and Princeton are especially popular spots for folks who have a visit to Cape Otway on their itinerary. |
