Torquay

The starting point of the Great Ocean Road, Torquay is conveniently located just 22 kilometres away from the city of Geelong. Popular around the world as one of the hottest surfing destinations, Torquay is the home of two of the world's best surfing beaches -- Jan Juc and Bells. Because of this, world-renowned surfing companies such as Quiksilver, Rip Curl and Piping Hot are based in Torquay. Also called the "Surf Coast," Torquay is home to the Surfworld Australia Surfing Museum where travelers can see a glimpse of early surf boards and gears and photos of famous surfers included in the Surfing Hall of Fame. Amateur surfers also flock to this destination every summer since the area is heavily patrolled by well-trained lifesavers and volunteers.

Torquay is also known as a famous fishing area with the Fisherman's Beach as the most traveled to location. Near the Fisherman's Beach is a historic monument, a big sundial filled with Aboriginal patterns and illustrations.
